Helen Flont

"It is a great delight to dwell in a picture."
                                   ~D. H. Lawrence

I love artwork very much. I think having beautiful pictures on the walls makes all the difference in a room. Whether large or small a piece of art is a very personal reflection of your taste and individuality. One of my most exciting discoveries last year was the work of a lovely lady in France named Helen Flont. Her paintings are sold on Etsy and Ebay and are truly beautiful. Here are some photos of the two paintings we purchased last year from Helen. The first is called 'La Rose D'Emma' and the second 'Interieur Parisien Petit Salon Aubusson II'. One of Helen's beautiful blogs is in my blog list - it is well worth a visit to see her art!

Loving Limoges

I love everything French including and most especially their beautiful Limoges china. Limoges is actually a city in France where the production of Limoges porcelain became renowned in the 19th century. In the 1860's a company in New York known as Bawo & Dotter imported Limoges porcelain into the USA and later created The Elite Works in Limoges France to decorate porcelain made by other factories. I have many individual pieces lovingly collected over the years but the pictures I wanted to share today are of my Mother's dinner set. It is Elite Works and, as with most of our china, decorated with a pattern of pink roses. It has taken several years to find the pieces in this collection and my family considers it a treasured heirloom.

The Sitting Room

My Mother has a remarkable gift for creating beauty. My earliest memories are of her quietly puttering about the house putting her hand to every space in order to make it as lovely as possible. I always think of this room as hers because it is in every way a reflection of what she loves and the way she lives. I remember the discovery of every object because more often than not I was with her. Trailing after her as a little girl I have found that her passion has become my own and I love what she loves.

L'instant

This little film was created by artist/photographer Romina Shama and is called "L'instant".
Astrid Berges-Frisbey is the young lady - an actress born in Barcelona Spain and currently
living in Paris. Astrid is the face of the French Connection clothing line and will soon be
seen in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film due in theatres May 2011. I absolutely love
this video by Shama and can't wait to see Astrid in Pirates. She is gorgeous!

(Explore Shama's unique and beautiful photography -
under 'Film' you will find a slightly different version of
"L'instant" that was recently modified. The above is the
previous version. Enjoy!)

Little Dress

"Dear March, come in!
 How glad I am!
 I looked for you before.
 Put down your hat-
 You must have walked-
How out of breath you are!
 Dear March, how are you?
 And the rest?
 Did you leave Nature well?
Oh, March, come right upstairs with me,
I have so much to tell!"
               ~Emily Dickinson

It is so cold right now it's hard to believe that the end of this month is supposed to herald the beginning of spring! Last year it was still snowing on my birthday in May! I hope that means this year will be kinder. I have taken some pictures of a doll's dress that I have - the lace is so beautiful and it has been embellished with a Meadowstreet rose. Stay tuned for an upcoming post about Meadowstreet you will not want to miss! For now enjoy my little dress...
