Vintage Valentines

"You know you are in love when you can't fall
asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."
                 ~Dr. Seuss

I'm sorry I haven't posted sooner but I've been fighting the flu again! I can't seem to shake it. Oh well! Valentine's Day is just around the corner and the store where I work - Heirlooms - just brought in a collection of gorgeous old paper valentines and I had to share them with you. They are all a bit faded and crinkled with age, but each one is special and lovely in it's own way. I imagine them crisp and new during their day being given to a sweetheart. I miss giving little valentines at school and decorating a box for my friends to put valentines for me in! Maybe I will have to make some of my own to give to all of the people that I love this Valentine's day! Enjoy this collection of pretty pictures and the very old sketch I am including with them...

  12. You have a wonderful collection of Valentines. I collect vintage postcards (all holidays). There is something very special about the artwork of this era. You are quite the artist yourself!

  14. Oh, I enjoyed these Valentine cards so much! We are fast losing the wonderful tradition of exchanging cards, notes and letters. I love to think of the more gentle and refined times of fountain pens, sumptuous writing papers and a wax seal. I have young cousins who aren't even taught penmanship in school; they only know how to print lower and uppercase letters and not do handwriting as I learned in the third grade of elementary school...practicing my capital "S" by doing figure 8s. One thing that's good is the popularity of keeping a journal...in my day, they were Dear Diary...and I'm planning to resume that, even if all I do is write a paragraph of the day and perhaps copy a catchy saying or poem. We have to have a blend or a bridge between our computers and our writing hand...somehow both have to have a place!
