Collections

    There are so many things about life that are mysterious to me! So many things to learn and discover. We are constantly growing up. I learn something new about myself everyday! Something about the things I like, about the way I approach situations, about my feelings, thoughts, and those of everyone around me. We are all so mysterious, and so beautiful. To take a very small example from my life at the moment - My sister is getting married and I am having the WORST time trying to figure out what to give her! You would think I would know her taste having lived with her for the last twenty odd years, but I am learning new things everyday. When people walk into the antique store looking for something to add to their collections I am almost always surprised by what they collect. One lady I remember had nearly a thousand teacups, another collected salt and pepper shakers, one gentleman had an enormous collection of antique and vintage eyewash cups, and our store once purchased a collection of saucers from a lady who owned 18,000. They covered every wall, door, and cupboard in her home! Collections are important and exciting. When I was growing up I collected dolls (among other things). I only have one of those dolls today - the very first I was ever given. Her name is Cecelia Sue. My Mum's collections have greatly influenced my own evolving style over the years. Her treasures have become as precious to me as they are to her, perhaps mostly because they are hers, and they represent a part of her that I love very much. I have taken some pictures of small collections of things in my home for you to see and maybe you will tell me a little about what you love to collect! Deliciously layered, this bedroom is reminiscent of a wedding cake. The room’s architectural elements look as if they could have been created by the finest cake decorator.

This whimsical attic getaway will surely induce sweet dreams. The rustic setting coupled with ornate lighting and furniture makes for a very romantic space.

Blush walls and flooring set the stage for a vintage iron bed and antique French screen. The delicate chandelier completes the elegant look.

Rustic elegance fills this dreamy bedroom design with its delicate lace bedding set atop a heavy iron bed. Fresh flowers finish the look.

An ornate twin bed is illuminated with small pin lights for a romantic glow in this girl’s pink bedroom.

My favorite room of all—a bedroom filled with sumptuous linens, vintage clothes and hats and antique silk flowers. The Chinoiserie chest adds a touch of the Orient.

By far the most prim and proper of our pink rooms, this stately bedroom features an ornate French bed dressed in gold and white. The walls are the palest of pink--they look almost nude.

A little girl’s dreams must come true in this whispery soft bedroom. Vintage touches give a nostalgic feel to the space. Does this room inspire lots of lovely interior design ideas?

Snow

   I am definitely starting to really and truly long for spring! I want sunshine and flowers and longer days! Today, instead, I woke up and it was snowing. I am certain that spring cannot be too far away though. I think I have been spoiled actually - our winter has definitely not been as bad this year as other years. I also know that some of my longings are stemming from the beautiful photos that I keep seeing on so many blogs whose authors are living in warmer climates. How I envy your beautiful flowers beginning to grow! At any rate I am determined to make the best of it, so here are some wintry photos for you and with any luck they will soon be followed by spring pictures! I also discovered this pretty ad on youtube. Enjoy!

    I found the prettiest blog the other day! Everything about it is, in one word, BEAUTIFUL. Even it's name is lovely: Sense and Sensibility. It is a tumblr scrapbook created by Sara to showcase everything and anything beautiful and inspiring. I love the color scheme and the pretty lace background to say nothing of the plethora of gorgeous photos and quotes you will find there! The quote above is 'borrowed' from this blog and I just love it! I think that it is very true - that we translate ourselves into our actions and the things that we choose to surround ourselves with.
