Coloured Cream with Roses

"It was June, and the world
smelled of roses. The sunshine
was like powdered gold over
the grassy hillside."
      ~Maud Hart Lovelace
            Betsy-Tacy and Tib, 1941

Every home naturally evolves over the years. When I was growing up most of our furniture was dark wood - mahogany, walnut, oak - warm and rich. We went from one extreme to the next incorporating white furniture with a seaside feeling, embracing the advent of 'Shabby Chic'. Eventually though my Mother realized that what she really loved was a predominantly French look of soft creams and feminine lines. Very Marie Antoinette, albeit a little less opulent. I have always been a little like a carbon copy of my Mum. We love the same things! So when we happen upon beautiful, soft, cream coloured treasures we are both equally excited!

This chair is one of a pair that my Mum and I happened upon. Love the original cream finish with the floral upholstery!

I am always experimenting with new ideas for handmade treasures. This handmade ribbon work ornament is in the Etsy shop now!

This is the smallest in a trio of nesting tables I found at an antique mall outside town. Lovely cream colour again with gold detail and painted flowers!

You can find this painted frame in my shop too!

My Mum and I both collect Limoges! We love these shallow teacups.

Lovely French Provincial dresser - a little chippy but sooooo romantic!

This Limoges Pitcher is so beautiful - it has a small flaw but who could pass it up!

Pretty china tray in cream and pink!

One of my favourite finds - a Limoges dresser tray with a pale yellow border.

Old Glamour

"If a June night could talk,
it would probably boast it
invented romance."
            ~Bern Williams

I thought I would call this post "Old Glamour" for two reasons: One, because these pictures are 'old' (as in photographs that I took for the blog years ago) and Two, because I was playing, re-editing and changing colours and when I was finished they all had the same old-world look to them. They are a little bit vintage, a little bit faded and textured, and of course, a little romantic. I have hundreds of files filled with pictures on my computer and I like to look at them once in awhile. Some were never edited at all which makes it fun to come back to them and try new filters and effects. And let's face it - who doesn't need a little extra romance to start the week off with?

Handmade Chandelier

"Chandeliers are marvels of
drop-dead showiness, the
jewellery of architecture."
               ~Peter York

I love to make things and my ideas get more ambitious everyday! I have toyed with the idea of some kind of hanging chandelier-like ornament for awhile but could never sort out in my mind how I would go about making it. One day a couple weeks ago I got out my supplies and just started. I had a picture in my mind (which felt really simple and turned out to be extremely difficult) and I tried to bring it into being as best I could. I made ribbon flowers and used a lot of trims, rosettes and gold glass shard glitter and this is how it turned out!

Birthday Festivities

"The more you praise and
celebrate your life, the more
there is in life to celebrate."
           ~Oprah Winfrey

This past weekend was my birthday and I had a wonderful time with family and friends! It was busy and special and I definitely won't forget it! I certainly felt very loved. This has been the year of tea parties. I had a very small get together to celebrate with two of my very best friends - the owners of the antique store where I used to work! We had all kinds of goodies (of course!) and lots of laughs.
I was very spoiled this birthday - my sister bought me the Fujifilm instal mini camera in pink! I love the little polaroid-type photos that it takes. I am going to have so much fun with it! She also drew me the gorgeous picture of the pink haired girl. I've taken a few pictures including this birthday cake design I made for the tea party.

I made the happy birthday banner. :) I'm addicted to my newest discovery - gold glass shard glitter!

My party was 'Paris' themed...

My sister's beautiful masterpiece. I love it!

I adore Bella Pilar greeting cards! Her art is so beautiful!
