New Prints!

  I know what I want!!! For this lovely sunshine to stay and everything to turn green! It's coming I'm sure of it. Between my chaotic schedule and some computer problems I wasn't able to post this weekend. Today is the day though and for a treat I have some new prints which have been added to my etsy store! They are all 5x7's including a new wedding gown called ' Tess', brand new interior design drawing called 'Black Commode', my fancy 'Ballgown' drawing, and a couple that you have seen over the last several months and have finally been made into prints. I also participated in a small Business Fair this past weekend and took some photos of the booths and pretty things that were for sale there (including my and my sister's artwork). I hope everyone is enjoying spring!!

Pretty Things

    Since I began taking an interest in photography I have started to look at objects around my home in terms of how they can be photographed together. I am constantly inspired by photos I see on blogs and pinterest. Oftentimes the prettiest pictures are the simplest! A single flower lying on a piece of music, a piece of lace, a dressy shirt hanging in a window, or the blurry outline of someone in the distance. I love pictures of random things sitting together - vignettes and collages. I think they are so quaint and interesting! I wanted to try taking some pictures this way with random pretty things sitting together. I hope you like them and the little "list" I created of a few of the things I like...

Spring Snow

   We were so sure that spring was on the way, and then the other day we woke up to grey skies and pouring rain. We didn't let it stop us from going out (after all there are wedding preparations to be made rain or shine!), and came home wet but with a few more things checked off our list. Suddenly right around supper time I happened to look out our kitchen window and what did I see...gigantic white snowflakes falling in curtains and covering the trees. In the space of a few minutes it went from spring rain to a magical narnia-like winter wonderland. So naturally my sister and I reverted to our childhood and ran outside in our pj bottoms and winter coats to enjoy the big fluffy snowflakes! I just happened to bring my camera with me (grin) so that you could enjoy our spring snow with us! The next day Emma did a little doodle in her notebook about our snowy evening which I have also included (without her knowledge). Enjoy!

Inspiration

   I have had many dreams in my life, some which have stayed with me over the years, and others that have faded over time. Dreams fuel our actions and give us courage. What inspires our dreams? It can be something small, something life-altering, someone's words, a chance encounter, or an unexpected glimpse into something new and surprising. I have always been inspired by words - they have a kind of magic for me because they have the power to create something vivid and alive, whether that is a feeling or an image, an association with the past, or hopes for the future. I have always loved the beauty of language. My Mum kept a diary in her twenties. It was typical of most diaries chronicling the events of her life, but the last quarter of the book was devoted to her favorite quotes from stories, articles, philosophers, prophets, and poets. I used to love to read this section of her diary - not only for the quotes themselves, but because I knew she loved them and had chosen them throughout her life as the words that inspired her. I copied my favorites down in my own journals and sometimes wrote the ones that inspired me the most on little pieces of paper that I would put around my room. When I went to university I chose to study words in all their forms. I learned how much I loved poetry, essays, and stories, and I began to write words of my own. I still collect beautiful quotes (I use them here!), I love books, I write poetry, and I dream and dream and dream. Here are a few random photos I took the other day - pretty things in my room and the pages of a book that I have with beautiful quotes. I suppose you could say that this is my dreaming place - the place where inspiration begins! Something new today as well - I am including an original poem that I wrote entitled "Wallflower" after the pictures and a little sketch I did recently.
